The sonarechoes create a "snapshot" from directly beneath the boat. Humminbird's exclusive software analyzes the echoes to pinpoint their location and ensure that only structure and activity just below the boat, and not to one side or the other, is shown. UNDERSTANDING SIDE IMAGING Humminbird Side Imaging Sonar uses a razor-thin beam to create a sonar snapshot to the left and right of the boat. The image returned is just a thin slice added to the previously displayed image, giving an incredibly detailed picture of the bottom of the water. EXPLAINS THE SPLIT DISPLAY: The dark part in the middle is the easiest to understand, it is the open water directly under the boat. Mentally fold the image in the middle of the screen for the first time, then fold it again on both sides as shown, at the dark point furthest away from the center of the screen. This is the deepest point in the water. As a rule, long shadows indicate large objects. HIGHER CATCH RATE DUE TO GREATER RANGE! Your device has MEGA Side Imaging+, you can reach ranges of approx. 60 meters to the left and right with your Helix and approx. 76 meters with Solix G3 and Apex, or MEGA Down Imaging+, then approx. 60/76 meters into the depth! This is not enough? Switch to the traditional Side or Down Imaging frequency of 455 kHz and you can reach distances of 120 meters in all directions!
